Intro
Everything you need to install Nexology, add it to your Shopify theme, test that it works, and get support. Step-by-step instructions are below. Video walkthroughs are coming soon. In the meantime, if you would like a live demo or a hand on the install, email support@nexology.co.uk and we will book you in.
Quick start
The fastest path from install to live recommendations.
- Install Nexology from the Shopify App Store.
- Wait for the catalogue to process. You will see a real-time progress bar in the Nexology admin. Smaller catalogues finish in minutes. Catalogues of tens of thousands of products can take a few hours.
- Add the Similar Vibe widget to your product page in the theme editor (instructions below).
- Enable the Nexology Search app embed in the theme editor (instructions below).
- Visit a product page on your storefront to confirm Similar Vibe is showing. Run a search to confirm Search is responding.
You do not need to wait for the full catalogue to finish processing before adding the widget. Recommendations appear as soon as each product is processed.
Installing the app
Open the Nexology Fashion Intelligence listing on the Shopify App Store and click Add app. Shopify will ask you to approve the requested permissions. These are the standard read scopes Nexology needs to see your product catalogue plus the write scopes needed to display the widget. After approval, the app installs and the Nexology admin opens automatically inside your Shopify admin.
The first thing you will see is a catalogue processing progress bar. Two phases run in sequence.
Phase A: product import
Nexology reads every product, image, tag, and variant from your store.
Phase B: AI analysis
Two fashion-trained AI models analyse every product. Visual AI understands aesthetic feel. Text AI understands fashion language across more than 100 languages.
You can leave the admin tab open or come back later. Processing continues in the background.
Adding Similar Vibe to your product pages
Similar Vibe is the visual recommendations widget that appears on product detail pages. You add it as a section block in the theme editor.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Customize on your live theme.
- In the theme editor's top dropdown, select Products > Default product (or whichever product template you use).
- In the left sidebar, click Add section.
- Under the Apps group, click Similar vibe.
- Drag the section to where you want it on the page. Most stores place it directly below the product description or below the "You might also like" area.
- Click Save.
Open any product page on your storefront. The Similar Vibe widget should appear with a row of related products. The widget styles itself to match your theme's typography and colour palette.
Adding Nexology Search to your storefront
Nexology Search replaces or augments your theme's built-in search with semantic, multilingual, typo-tolerant search. You enable it as a theme app embed.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Customize on your live theme.
- In the left sidebar, click the App embeds icon (the puzzle piece near the bottom).
- Find Nexology Search in the list.
- Toggle it on.
- Click Save.
App embeds apply across the whole storefront. You do not need to add Search to individual templates.
To test, open your storefront and type a query into the search bar. You should see results returned by Nexology. Try a deliberately misspelled query, a query in another language, or a descriptive query like "wedding guest dress" to see semantic search in action.
Configuration
Most stores do not need to configure anything. Nexology is designed to work well out of the box.
The Nexology admin offers one optional configuration area:
- Product visibility rules. Hide specific products, collections, or tags from recommendations and search results. Useful for excluding draft products, archived seasons, or items you do not want to surface algorithmically.
Visibility rules live in the Nexology admin inside Shopify. Changes apply within a few minutes.
How to test
A short checklist to confirm everything is working after install.
- Open the Nexology admin and confirm the catalogue progress bar shows products processed. Aim for at least 50 products processed before you start testing the widget.
- Visit a product detail page on your storefront. Confirm the Similar Vibe widget renders with related products. The products shown should feel visually similar in aesthetic.
- Run a search on your storefront. Try a clean keyword, a typo, and a descriptive phrase. Confirm relevant results appear.
- If you sell across regions, run a search in another language. Confirm relevant results appear from your single catalogue, with no translation step.
- Visit the analytics dashboard in the Nexology admin. Confirm searches and recommendation impressions are being recorded.
If any of these steps fail, see Troubleshooting below.
